21 Medals for Team SLU at Goodwill Swim Meet

21 Medals for Team St. Lucia at the 23rd Goodwill Swim Championship

 

St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association, represented by 26 swimmers took to the pool in Guyana August 18th to 20th 2017 for the 23rd Goodwill Swim Championship. Over 200 swimmers from six countries to include Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, St. Lucia, newly invited countries Bahamas and Grenada and host country Guyana competed over the 3 day meet.

 

The team medaled in several events bringing home 6(Six) Gold, 8 (Eight) Sliver and 7 (Seven) bronze medals.

 

The top performing swimmers included Antoine Destang achieving 3(Three) Gold medals in 50Free, 100Free and 50Fly, 2 (Two) silver medals in 100IM and 50Breast and 1(One) Bronze in 50Back from a total of 6 events and walking away with the top points in the overall 8 and under Goodwill swimmers. Antoine also broke 5 Age Group records in 100Free, 100IM, 50Free, 50Fly and 50Breast.

 

Ziv Reynolds took his place on the podium with a double Gold in 50meter and 100meter Breast as well as Omar Alexander with 1(One) Gold in 50Free and 1(One) Bronze in  50 Back, D’Andre Blanchard with 1(One) Silver in 50 Breast, Naekeisha Louis with 1(One) Silver in 50 Fly, Marisa Louisy with 1(Bronze) in 50 Back and the Relay team comprising of  Naekeisha Louis, Jorja Mederick, Sunshine Mauricette and Anya Hilaire with 1(One)silver in the 200 Free and a bronze in 400 Free relay.

 

Trinidad and Tobago pulled it off for the fourth year with top points leaving St. Lucia with 314.5 points placing 5th.

 

Head Coach David Peterkin has indicated that the teams’ performance was more than he expected which was encouraging. He also expressed that the swimmers were in good spirits throughout enjoying competing and showing their appreciation for being selected on their National Team.

 

Barbados was selected to be the host country of the 24th Goodwill Championship 2018.
