CERTIFICATION PATHWAY SUCCESS FOR SLAF

July 1st, 2019 signaled the start of the certification process for thirty (30) participants from St. Lucia in the FINA Assistant Coach’s Level 1 Course. Participants had a three-month period to complete the online component of the Course.This was the first year FINA introduced an online platform, the Certification Learning Pathway, to manage its certification process. Prospective coaches had to successfully complete the online component by taking an exam at the end of all modules. Twenty-five (25) persons successfully completed the online certification.The face to face aspect of the certification was held from October 5 – 7, 2019 at the Bay Gardens Inn and the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre. This was conducted by Mr. Rick Powers. Twenty-four (24) participants were successful and attained the FINA Assistant Coach Level 1.Twenty-five swimmers formed part of the practical sessions for the coaches. It was very intense for the swimmers as the duration of the workout were not what they are accustomed to in their clubs.The Federation would like to express its sincere gratitude to the 11 swimmers Sharks Swim Club, 7 Lightning Aquatics, 5 Southern Flying Fish, 3 RR Aquatics and 3 Seajays Swim Club. The swimmers formed an integral part of the clinic as this was the final assessment for the prospective coaches.The new cadre of Assistant Coaches are from the communities of Soufriere, Vieux Fort, Choiseul, Gros Islet and Castries. In this grouping a few school were represented thru their Physical Education and Sports teachers, namely, the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre, Choiseul Secondary, Ciceron Secondary, School of Sporting Excellence, Gordon and Walcott Memorial Methodist School, Bocage Secondary and the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School.
